Lexus Celebrates Grand Touring Tradition with UK Travel Posters featuring the LC Convertible

18 August 2021

With the post-lockdown return to the roads and the growing popularity of the staycation, Lexus celebrates the grand touring tradition with three travel posters created by UK artists, featuring the eye-catching LC Convertible.

Each designer was briefed to produce an artwork featuring the LC Convertible in a popular UK location, inspired by vintage travel posters.  Rebecca Pymar focused her design on the Peak District, Queenie Moorhouse from Guildford featured the car in front of Brighton’s Palace Pier, and Joel Clark from Thame chose Tower Bridge in London for his design.

Lexus has also been running the travel poster design project across other European countries and a public vote will be held on 23 August to find out which is the most popular. In the meantime, a UK vote on the Lexus instagram channel: https://www.instagram.com/lexusuk/ will run from now until 22 August to choose one of the three UK designs to go forward to the European vote.

The Lexus LC Convertible is the perfect car in which to enjoy a great drive through stunning scenery.  Launched in the UK in 2020, it is designed to look equally beautiful with the roof up or down, with Lexus’s famous attention to detail producing a beautifully appointed cabin.  It delivers Lexus’s “exhilarating performance” thanks to its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine, with acceleration from 0-62mph in five seconds, while precise aerodynamic styling prevents wind buffeting when travelling at speed with the roof down. The car was voted Best Open Top in the UK Car of the Year Awards 2021.

The Lexus LC Convertible Travel Posters

Ladybower Viaduct on Snake Pass, the Peak District, by Rebecca Pymar

Rebecca Pymar is an illustrator from Norwich with a passion for colour and form.  She chose the Peak District, and more specifically a section of Snake Pass, as the location for her poster as it felt like a natural choice. She comments: “It is renowned by drivers as one of the UK’s most enjoyable and breath-taking sections of road. It twists and turns, meandering through the hills and across the reservoir, with the sun bouncing off surrounding hills.

“Vintage travel poster art has forever been an inspiration for me and my work; it harks back to the golden era of transport, holidays and adventure. I love to capture some of those feelings today in a modern and contemporary style; my hope is to evoke nostalgic memories for myself and others.”

She adds: “The Lexus LC Convertible inspired the colours and feel of this piece – dusky reds and yellow, like a balmy summer evening. The car itself has a distinctive form, each feature seamlessly blending into the next. It is both elegant and bold and really sets off the dramatic backdrop of the peaks. Its curves mirror the lines of the road and surrounding landscape, and the vanishing points of the road align with the car to make it flow and have a sense of movement within the picture.”

Brighton Pier by Queenie Moorhouse

Queenie Moorhouse is a graphic designer who specialises in vintage-style travel prints which offer a perfect reminder of time well spent.  She comments: “My designs are abstract, with intense, rich, boho colours.  Most importantly, the final design always has to be something I’d be happy to hang in my own home. The print I’ve designed for Brighton conjures up memories of warm summer days enjoying the bustle and buzz of this charming seaside town on the south coast of England – a perfect place to drive to.”

Tower Bridge, London, by Joel Clark

Joel Clark is a British artist specialising in hand-cut vinyl pop art. From a background in advertising, and with a life-long obsession for all things on wheels, Clark takes on many automotive inspired subjects, while also being known for creating architecture-based collections. He chose Tower Bridge as his setting as it is close to where he lived in East London.  He comments: “My inspiration came from my practice of combining traditional skills with contemporary materials. The sharp 21st century design of the LC Convertible, set against the Neo-Gothic 19th century design was the perfect choice to accentuate this, plus I love convertibles!”
