The Media, GDPR and Toyota (GB) PLC

The PR and Social Media team at Toyota (GB) PLC can reassure our media contacts that their data is safe with us.

We retain data of members of the media provide to us solely so that we can provide an efficient service to them. The data we hold is used only for the provision one or more of the following services: –

  • Delivery of press and courtesy vehicles
  • Organisation of media travel arrangements
  • Distribution of press releases, media updates and advisory notices
  • Efficient logistical organisation for media participation in Toyota, Lexus and Toyota Corporate events

The data is never used for any commercial purpose, nor do we share media data with any other organisation for commercial purposes, however we do use some third parties to help manage this service:

All our media customers and contacts have the right to access the data we hold on them, to correct any errors, and to be erased from any of our databases. They have the right to restrict personal data we hold, the right to the portability of that data and, of course, the right to object to the holding of that data.

All members of the media we have contact with should be assured that Toyota (GB) PLC complies with all the requirements of all applicable data protection laws.

We only hold data to help us provide the services media want from us, efficiently and effectively, and not for anything else.

When we hold personal data such as contact information, passport details, addresses and so on it’s purely to help us ensure car loans, press trips, and events all go as smoothly as you’ve come to expect from Toyota and Lexus, and that we’re sending information to the right people, in the right place and at the right time.

As part of an international company, we will sometimes share media information with colleagues at Toyota Motor Europe, or other Toyota geographies. This may happen when we’re involved in media activities outside the UK. This information is not used for any other purpose than it is in the UK and our international colleagues do not use or share this data for any commercial purposes. Toyota (GB) Plc ensure that all necessary safeguards are in place where this may occur.

Finally, we only hold journalists’ and influencers’ data for as long as they wish us to. If anyone no longer wishes to access the press office’s services, we delete their data immediately.
