Lexus quality and craftsmanship combine with high value in the ES Premium Edition, a new addition to the range of self-charging hybrid mid-size saloons.

The Premium Edition comes with extensive additional equipment features, together worth more than £3,000, but only carries an on-the-road price tag £550 greater than the entry-level ES on which it is based.

The details include 18-inch alloy wheels, 12.3-inch Lexus navigation with DVD player, heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charger, automatic wipers, windscreen de-icer and aluminium scuff plates for all four doors. The on-the-road price is £35,750, keeping the model well below the £40,000 threshold for additional Vehicle Excise Duty.

Extra content has also been added to the Tech and Safety Pack that can be specified to give the ES F Sport model even more appeal. It now comes with the 12.3-inch Lexus multimedia and navigation system, together with triple-eye LED headlights, heated steering wheel and a wireless smartphone charger.

The ES F Sport remains one of the best-value sports saloons on the market. Even with the addition of the Tech and Safety Pack option, its £39,255 price remains below the £40,000 “luxury” level, while its highly efficient hybrid powertrain delivers low CO2 emissions, securing a 28 per cent benefit-in-kind rating for company car tax-payers.

A Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now standard features across the ES range, being newly added to the ES and F Sport grades. The Rear Cross-Traffic Alert includes an auto-braking function which intervenes to help prevent a collision if the driver fails to respond to a warning of approaching traffic when reversing out of a parking space.

Ensuring the driver is kept aware of any hazards in the car’s immediate vicinity is key to safer driving. In addition to the standard provision of the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lexus also provides the high-tech option of digital side view mirrors on the ES Takumi – a first in its European model range. Compact, door-mounted cameras relay real-time images to monitors on each corner of the dashboard, with protection against dirt, rain and snow to maintain a clear picture. The view is automatically extended to eliminate blind spots when the turn indicators are used, or reverse gear is selected.

Equipment features standard on the ES entry model include a 10-speaker Pioneer audio system, dual-zone climate control with Climate Concierge, heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment, sunroof, intelligent parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, 17-inch alloy wheels and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Lexus Safety System+.

The F Sport version adds performance dampers, Adaptive Variable Suspension, F Sport exterior and interior styling details, 19-inch F Sport alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and auto-folding and reverse-tilt functions for the power door mirrors.

At the top of the range, the Takumi model is rich in craftsmanship and advanced technology features, including 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, 12.3-inch multimedia display, power boot lid with hands-free kick sensor, head-up display, semi-aniline leather upholstery and Shimamoku wood trim inlays.

ES and F Sport specifications can be upgraded with optional equipment packs: Premium Pack for the ES grade and the Tech and Safety and Takumi Packs for the F Sport grade.

The new 2021 Lexus ES is on sale now, with deliveries to customers from October.
