Lexus has lined up a fresh new look and higher equipment specifications for the GS saloon range this autumn, including the introduction of Lexus Safety System+, an advanced package of driver assistance and safety systems.

Styling
The revised GS creates an intersection between style and refinement, captured in a strong rendition of the signature Lexus spindle grille, framed by an elegant satin chrome trim and flanked by new LED headlights. The design revisions include a new front bumper and rocker panel, adding more emphasis to the coupe-inspired profile.

New machined-finish wheel designs have been produced, together with new interior trim options and exterior colour choices.

Lexus Safety System+
The GS advances Lexus’s commitment to engineering safer vehicles. A robust body structure and 10 airbags as standard provide the foundation for occupant protection, while a wide array of driver-assist technologies increase the chances of avoiding a collision.

The Lexus Safety System+ – fitted as standard – combines a Pre-Crash Safety system with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive High Beam System, Traffic Sign Recognition and All-Speed Active Cruise Control.

All-Speed Active Cruise Control works at a range of speeds. It tracks the speed of the vehicle travelling ahead and can adjust the speed setting accordingly to help maintain a preset distance. It’s sophisticated enough to adjust acceleration and deceleration smoothly when a vehicle enters or exits the lane or road ahead.

Using a combination of millimetre-wave radar and a front-facing camera, the Pre-Crash Safety system can help detect vehicles – and in some circumstances, pedestrians. It can warn the driver of a possible collision and can initiate automatic braking with Brake Assist if necessary.

Lane Keep Assist uses a camera to scan lane markings on the road surface and triggers audio-visual alerts and vibrates the steering wheel if it determines that the car has unintentionally deviated from its lane. It also generates steering assist to help the driver return the car to its correct course.

Traffic Sign Recognition monitors the road ahead and recognises principal warning or command signs, such as temporary speed limits on motorways, and projects the information on the head up display in front of the driver.

The Adaptive High-Beam System combines technology, safety and driving courtesy. It automatically shades part of the headlight beam with shutters to avoid blinding drivers ahead.

World reveal at Pebble Beach
The new look GS was unveiled today with the world debut of the new GS 200t at Pebble Beach in California, in the lead-up to the resort’s Concours d’Elegance this Sunday. The new model, featuring Lexus’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, is being introduced in selected markets later this year.

This model is not scheduled for sale in the UK; details of the revised GS range in the UK will be announced in September.
