September Sales Record for Lexus in the UK

7 October 2019
  • Lexus enjoys highest ever UK monthly sales in September – 3,852 vehicles
  • Introduction of compact SUV, Lexus UX, helps drive retail success
  • Records tumble in a year that sees Lexus pick up multiple industry awards

Lexus has recorded its highest ever monthly sales total in the UK, with 3,852 cars leaving showrooms in September.

The strong performance caps an exceptional year for the brand as it heads into 2020 – the 30th anniversary of the brand in Britain.  In March of this year, Lexus deliveries to customers again topped 3,000, with UK car buyers turning to the luxury carmaker’s unique offering of ultimate quality, customer satisfaction and hybrid drivetrains.

Significant to the growth of Lexus this year has been the introduction of the UX compact SUV, giving Lexus customers the choice of full, mid and compact-sized lifestyle vehicles, all powered by the efficient Lexus self-charging hybrid system.  With almost 2,000 UX leaving showrooms so far this year, the new model has cemented Lexus’s position in the fastest-growing sector of the car market, as Lexus Director, Ewan Shepherd, explained:

“If you look back, Lexus led the way when it came to modernising luxury cars, with the introduction of the first self-charging hybrid SUV, the RX 400h.  The addition of the NX to the range offered a crossover that matched the lifestyle needs of our growing customer base and the arrival, this year, of the UX has opened up a new market to us.  The latest version of the Lexus self-charging hybrid powertrain gives class-leading fuel economy in a package that offers sharp handling alongside SUV presence.  This appeals to both the company car driver and family buyer.”

Looking at the breakdown of September’s sales figures, they show an even split between business and private sales, with fleet deliveries at 1,971 and retail 1,881.

The rising sales performance at Lexus comes in a year that has seen the brand awarded a number of industry accolades for quality and customer service.  Earlier this year, Which? named Lexus both Best Car Brand and its Most Trusted Brand.  Lexus owners, through the Auto Express Driver Power survey, voted the brand Britain’s best car manufacturer and have praised its dealer network, voting Lexus as number one retailer for the third year running.

Shepherd added: “Seeing the sales figures rise shows that we’ve now got the right product line-up on offer, from a commercial perspective.  However, our colleagues within our retailer network work exceptionally hard every day to deliver first-class service and these awards are recognition of that hard work.”
