Lexus Still Number One for Reliability
Top-rated manufacturer in 2017 Consumer Reports survey
The rigorous, independent scrutiny of more than half a million vehicles has confirmed that Lexus remains the most reliable car manufacturer in the latest annual report by leading watchdog organisation Consumer Reports.
Facing an even tougher examination this year, Lexus emerged the clear leader with an 86 per cent reliability score, ahead of its sister brand Toyota with 78 per cent, mirroring the standings they achieved in the American study last year.
Announcing the results, Consumer Reports said Lexus’s sustained success was “the least surprising news” and commended both brands for the “tried and true methods” they use to build their cars and their “conservative, evolutionary approach”.
The strength-in-depth of Lexus quality is also reflected in three of its models featuring in Consumer Reports’ list of the 10 most reliable models: the GS saloon, CT 200h hatchback and the American market GX SUV.
Consumer Reports compiled its survey by researching the experiences of its digital and print subscribers with cars built during the past 16 years, taking into account the many different things that can go wrong or cause annoyance, from squeaks and loose trim to major warranty repairs. The results allowed the organisation to predict the reliability performance of models that are in showrooms now, based on their manufacturers’ track record during the past three years.
