Anticipation for the arrival of Lexus’s high-performance RC F coupe has been cranked up another notch with a race-prepared version of the car dominating the field in the Suzuka 1,000km.
The Petronas TOM’S car started on pole position and led every one of the 173 laps in the five-and-half-hour race, the latest round of the Japanese Super GT Championship (31 August). Driven by Kazuki Nakajima and James Rossiter, it was a maiden win for the Petronas TOM’S car in the GT500 class, and the third win of the season for an RC F.
The road-going model that’s due to hit the road at the end of the year is powered by Lexus’s most powerful V8 engine yet, producing more than 450bhp. The race cars entered for the the Super GT series are built to international GT3 specifications and benefit from a lighter bodyshell, but share the same basic chassis components and engine.
The winning car at Suzuka was the first of five RC F entries in the top 10. All will be back in action in Thailand on October 4/5.
