- New model unveiled today at the Shanghai Motor Show
- UK sales to start in late 2013
Lexus revealed the next stage in the expansion of its GS range today with the unveiling of its new GS 300h saloon at the Shanghai motor show.
The new model will be competing at the heart of the premium executive market, with a focus on fleet and business customers. Its rear-wheel drive powertrain features a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with D-4S direct injection technology, and a compact, powerful electric motor. Lexus’s target of CO2 emissions below 110g/km will make the GS 300h one of the most efficient models in its class.
The GS 300h will join Lexus’s UK model range late this year; it will also be sold in global markets including China, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It joins the GS 450h and GS 250 in the UK, and the GS 350 and 350 AWD (all-wheel drive) models, which are available elsewhere.
The new GS was introduced in spring 2012 and recorded 47,787 worldwide sales by the end of the year, almost six times the total its predecessor model achieved in 2011.
