Lexus Design Award 2023 – orientation webinar available

The Lexus Design Award 2023, an international design competition dedicated to empowering and encouraging the next generation of creators, is open for entries until 16 October 2022.

Lexus has produced an orientation webinar for prospective entrants providing information about the award’s purpose and features, and details of how to take part. It also uses case studies to show how the competition has enhanced the careers of former winners. 

These include Lisa Marks, from the UK, who won the 2019 Award with her entry, Algorhythmic Lace, a bra designed for style and comfort for mastectomy patients.  Her participation in the awards led to global career opportunities and she is now an associate professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, focusing on industrial design.

The Lexus Design Award encourages new ideas to address the challenges facing societies worldwide and help deliver a better future for all. Entries should also embrace the spirit of the three core principles of the Lexus brand: Anticipate, Innovate and Captivate.

After the closing date of 16 October, a judging committee of internationally recognised design experts will select four winners who will be mentored in the development of their concepts by leading creators. They will also receive a development budget of up to 3 million Japanese yen (approximately £18,400) to cover prototype construction and other expenses.

In spring 2023, the winners will present their finished work to the judges and mentors for review.
