Lexus At The Birmingham Motor Show

28 April 2004

Key points

  • UK debut of Lexus RX400h, the world’s first hybrid luxury SUV
  • UK debut of LF-X, Lexus Future – Crossover concept vehicle

Lexus is offering visitors to The Sunday Times Motor Show Live a glimpse of the future with two exhibits focusing on important developments in technology and design.

The occasion will mark the UK debut of the Lexus RX400h, the world’s first hybrid power SUV. This is not a concept, but a production-ready model that will be going on sale in the UK early in 2005. In essence it is a prestige 4×4 that in terms of quality and specification matches the class-leading standards of the current Lexus RX series. The principle difference is in the powertrain: the RX400h is the first Lexus to use the Hybrid Synergy Drive system.

In the RX400h this combines a 3.3-litre petrol V6 engine and front and rear electric motors. The result is performance that rivals a standard petrol V8, but with significant improvements in engine emissions and fuel economy.

Looking further ahead, the LF-X concept car showcases L-Finesse, the new design thinking that will shape the look of the next generation of Lexus showroom models. LF-X (Lexus Future – Crossover) is a bold and dynamic vehicle that combines the visual presence of an SUV with the sleeker lines of a saloon car. Measuring almost five metres long, it is a six-seater powered by a 4.3-litre V8 engine.

Lexus will also be showing key models from its current UK range, including the RX300, now firmly established as Britain’s best-selling petrol-powered premium SUV, the SC430 coupe convertible and the flagship LS430 luxury saloon.

Senior executives and the press and public affairs team from Lexus (GB) Ltd will be on hand throughout the show’s press day, Tuesday 25 May. The Lexus stand is number 7-210 in hall 7 at the National Exhibition Centre.
