New Lexus RZ powers ahead
More power, an extended driving range, quicker charging and a refined and rewarding driving experience have helped accelerate sales of the new Lexus RZ to a new high. It has posted more than 950 sales in the first six months of 2026, taking the RZ’s lifetime total beyond 5,000 units.
Meanwhile, across Lexus’s European region, RZ sales volumes for the first half of 2026 rose 43 per cent year on year
The strong and sustained customer response reflects Lexus’s success in making the RZ an even more appealing all-round proposition in the highly competitive premium electric SUV market.
Seeking to maximise the benefits of battery electric vehicle technologies, Lexus undertook a comprehensive revision of the RZ’s powertrain to achieve both more power and greater energy efficiency. Adopting a new high-capacity 77kWh lithium-ion battery and revised eAxles helped extend the car’s driving range to up to up to 346 miles (RZ 350e with 18-inch wheels, WLTP data).
Charging performance was also enhanced through the adoption of a 22kW onboard charger (a standard feature on all RZ models) and new battery pre-conditioning and cooling systems that optimise the unit’s temperature for quick and consistent recharging. A 10 to 80 per cent recharge can now be achieved in about 30 minutes, with the benefit of pre-conditioning.
The driving experience was also taken to another level with strategic measures to increase structural rigidity, reducing body movement and supporting more precise steering response. This enhances the confidence, comfort and control that are the key characteristics of the Lexus Driving Signature.
Signature Lexus omotenashi luxury and comfort were the focus of steps to make the interior quieter than ever before. The cabin is as well insulated as possible from noise and vibration to provide a calm, comfortable and cocooning environment.
The new RZ’s technical advances include the first application of Lexus’s steer-by-wire system, giving responsive, smooth and controllable performance using a new yoke-shaped steering wheel.
The new RZ introduced the first F Sport models to the range, the RZ 550e F Sport and F Sport Takumi. These performance flagships deliver 402bhp/300kW, allowing 0-62mph acceleration in 4.4 seconds. It was also the first model to be equipped with Lexus’s Interactive Manual Drive, a technology that gives the driver the sensations and rewards of manual gear selection in battery electric vehicle.
