Lexus Skills Competition
David Henshaw from Lexus Manchester has claimed the top honours in the first ever Lexus Skills Competition. The competition is the first to be organised by any Lexus National Marketing and Sales Company anywhere in the world, and has once again provided Lexus (GB) with another first.
David was named winner for Lexus after beating four regional finalists in a day of practical skills tests. The contest was open to Lexus Licensed Technicians throughout the Lexus Centre network and was an inaugural event for the company. To win the competition David had to complete two rounds of question papers, the first at his Lexus Centre, and the second within a controlled environment before completing the practical tests at the Lexus Academy. The award was presented to David by Sarah Sillars, Chief Executive of the IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry).
“The purpose of holding a Skills Competition is to encourage and motivate Technicians to improve their skills and knowledge as well as rewarding their efforts,” advised Fred Green, Technical Training Manager at the Lexus Academy. “This has proved to be a very popular event within the Lexus Centre network and bringing this competition to the Lexus technicians allows them the chance to not only improve their skills, but also win some fantastic prizes.”
All contestants received a digital camera in recognition of reaching the final and will be invited to visit the Toyota Formula 1 factory in Cologne. As the Lexus Champion, David will be invited to attend the Toyota Pan European Skills Grand Prix in Brussels on 4 November 2004 as a guest, as well as the Assembly of Champions in Japan, with his partner in March/April 2005.
