Travis Perkins Could Build On First Lexus
The first Lexus to join the 1300-strong car fleet of timber and builders merchant Travis Perkins is a GS 300 SE for the group’s Human Resources Director.
Travis Perkins, one of the UK’s biggest timber and builders merchants, supplies trade professionals and DIYers through a nationwide network of 1000 branches, including the Wickes chain. The group is based in Northampton and employs some 14,000 people.
HR Director Rob Tansey drives all over the UK in the course of his work, and expects to cover the full 120,000 miles during the standard four-year replacement cycle of the car. “The car has proved itself reliable since it arrived in the New Year and has given no problems whatsoever,” commented Group Car Fleet Manager Phil Bowyer. “I like the whole Lexus range, and I hope we’ll see more of them on the fleet,” said Mr Bowyer. “I’ve tried the GS300 and I think it’s a lovely car. I also tried the RX 400h 4×4 hybrid and was suitably impressed, even though it’s unusual for me to like an SUV.” Travis Perkins purchases its vehicles outright and operates a “free choice” policy for its business cars.
The well-equipped Lexus GS 300 SE is powered by a smooth 3-litre V6 engine of 245bhp and 310Nm of torque at 3500rpm, driving through a six-speed automatic transmission. With a top speed of 148mph and acceleration of 0-62mph in 7.2sec, the car offers extra-urban fuel consumption of 39.2mpg and a combined-cycle figure of 28.8mpg.
