The introduction this summer of the all-new ES 350e marks a redefinition of the luxury saloon, a technically advanced luxury saloon that delivers more space, greater refinement and significantly more prestige features than its predecessor. Fully re-engineered, it is available in the UK exclusively as a battery electric model, repositioning it as an all-round more elevated proposition.
Three equipment grades are offered at launch: Premium, Premium Plus and Takumi.
Key features in an extensive standard equipment list for the Premium model include a synchronised combination of 12.3-inch driver’s combimeter and 14-inch Lexus Connect multimedia screen. Front seats are power-adjustable, with a memory setting for the driver and integrated heating and ventilation functions. Energy-efficient cabin heating also includes front radiant heaters and a heated steering wheel. The instrument panel features new Lexus Hidden Touch Switches, revealed behind the seamless instrument panel upholstery only when the car is switched on. Two USB charging ports are located in the front and rear, together with a front console wireless charging pad. Other details include a 10-speaker audio system, paddle shift controls to adjust regenerative braking, a heated windscreen, Sonic Platinum metallic paint and a panoramic roof. The latest generation Lexus Safety System+ active safety and driver assistance systems are also provided.
The Premium Plus extends this specification with cornering lamps, an electronic rear-view mirror, semi-aniline leather upholstery and 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system. The front seats gain additional power adjustment functions and the doors adopt an automatic easy-closing system. A head-up display, twin wireless charging pads and a new bamboo layering door trim,
At the top of the range, the Takumi model raises onboard comfort levels to rival some higher, F-premium models. The details include heated and ventilated reclining rear seats with ottoman-style leg rest and rear centre console with a control panel for seating and ventilation adjustment. The rear side and back windows are fitted with sunshades and the car rides on lightweight 21-inch alloy/resin aero wheels.
Powertrain
The ES’s battery electric powertrain features a 77kWh lithium-ion battery and an eAxle driving the front wheels. Total system output is 221bhp (224 DIN hp/165kW) enabling 0-62mph acceleration in eight seconds (all data provisional prior to homologation).
Lexus battery management, temperature control and pre-conditioning functions secure consistent charging performance in all temperatures. Fast recharging from 10 to 80 per cent with a 150 kW DC power supply will take around 28 minutes. The ES is equipped with a 22kW onboard charger; a full recharge from zero to 100 per cent can be accomplished in about four hours.
Further performance and technical information will be provided closer to the time of the model’s launch.
