Lexus LBX recognised for best small SUV interior in the WhatCar? Awards

22 January 2026

The Lexus LBX has been commended in small SUV category and recognised for the best interior in its class the 2026 WhatCar? Awards.

The full hybrid compact crossover, WhatCar?’s Car of the Year in 2024 and Small SUV of the Year for the past two years, continues to set benchmarks in one of the most competitive segments of the premium car market. The latest honour reflects how the LBX is an authentic Lexus in every regard, regardless of it being the smallest model in the brand’s line-up, offering the craftsmanship luxury that defines Lexus and reflects the “class above” quality of its equipment specification.

Steve Huntingford, WhatCar? Editor, said: “The Lexus LBX might be the brand’s entry-level model, but it shows no signs of having been at the mercy of the bean counters. Its interior is trimmed in plush materials and put together with an uncommon level of precision. The physical climate controls are as user-friendly as they are well damped. The fact that our favoured Takumi model brings acoustic front side windows and a punchy Mark Levinson audio system only adds to the sense of luxury.”

For the driver, the LBX benefits from Lexus’s Tazuna design concept, which locates controls and information displays so they can be operated or viewed with just the slightest movement of hand or eye, keeping the focus on the road ahead. For the front seat passenger, the sense is of being warmly cocooned with the instrument panel flowing into the doors to create a wrap-around effect. The influence of Lexus’s takumi craftsmanship and traditional Japanese aesthetics are also evident in the charcoal-finish Tsuyasumi trim inlays and in the tatami-style upholstery stitching option.

According to model grade, the upholstery choices include semi-aniline leather, a combination of leather and Ultrasuede or a high quality leather alternative free from animal products. At the top of the range, the Takumi and Takumi Design models provide ambient lighting with a spectrum of 50 different colours, acoustic glass to help insulate the cabin from external noise and a bespoke 13-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound system.
