Alfie Hewett OBE, Great Britain and World number one men’s wheelchair tennis player, becomes a Lexus sporting ambassador
Alfie Hewett OBE, Great Britain and World number one men’s wheelchair tennis player, is the latest sporting star to become a Lexus UK ambassador.
He joins fellow top players Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter to reinforce Lexus’s commitment to British tennis. This year the brand is the headline sponsor of the national teams competing in the Billie Jean King Cup, Davis Cup and wheelchair World Team Cup, and is also the Official Performance Partner and Automotive Partner to the LTA, supporting the game at all levels.
Hewett, 26, is one of the most exciting talents in wheelchair tennis, currently ranked number one in the world. At just 19 years old he won silver medals in the men’s singles and doubles events at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, adding another silver at the Tokyo Games in 2021. In 2023 Alfie received an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for his services to tennis and was also shortlisted in the nominations for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. He has won 27 Grand Slam titles to date, including the men’s doubles at this year’s Australian Open. He is now preparing for a busy season leading up to Wimbledon and the Paralympic Games in Paris.
Lexus will provide Hewett with a Lexus RX 450h+ hybrid SUV. The RX offers plenty of boot space for his tennis gear and wheelchair when travelling to training at the David Lloyd Norwich Easton tennis centre and to tournaments around the UK.
Chris Hayes, Director of Lexus in the UK, commented: “Alfie strives for excellence and is a master of his craft, which is a perfect match to the Lexus brand values of outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail which outclass the competition. Driving the RX will ensure Alfie arrives at this season’s tournaments relaxed and ready to achieve even more in what is already an incredibly impressive career.”
Alfie Hewett commented: “I’m really excited to join the Lexus team; for a brand like Lexus to want to showcase their interest in the wheelchair tennis movement is a really powerful and progressive step forward for the sport. It makes me proud to have them involved in my tennis journey on and off the court. I genuinely do spend a lot of time in my hybrid RX going to and from training in London and Norwich and it really helps me to have such a comfortable vehicle to make the long journeys enjoyable and more sustainable”.
