Lexus has expanded its NX mid-size SUV range to include a new front-wheel drive model that offers valuable cost-of-ownership savings to both private customers and business motorists.

The option of front-wheel drive – in place of the E-Four all-wheel drive system that’s standard across the NX line-up – is available on the entry-level model, together with 17-inch alloy wheels. This combination achieves a reduction in combined cycle CO2 emissions (from 171 to 161g/km) which moves the model into a lower band for Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax) and gains a lower benefit-in-kind rating for company car tax.

Where VED is concerned, the annual saving is £330. For company car tax-payers, the benefit-in-kind rating is 35 per cent in the first year (2021/2022), compared to 37 per cent for the NX with all-wheel drive; this delivers a saving of £418 in the first year and £832 over three years for a business motorist paying income tax at 40 per cent.

Powered by a self-charging hybrid electric system, the NX is highly fuel efficient, with an official combined cycle figure of 39.7mpg for the new front-wheel drive model. The hybrid technology also allows the vehicle to be driven in all-electric EV mode in urban traffic, with zero emissions and zero fuel consumption (when driving conditions and battery charge level permit).

The NX has a comprehensive equipment specification that reflects Lexus luxury craftsmanship and application of advanced technologies for safety and on-board comfort and connectivity. Standard features include power-adjustable front seats, eight-inch multi-media display, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, LED headlights with Automatic High Beam, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, auto-folding door mirrors, auto-diming rear-view mirror and an eight-speaker audio system. Lexus Navigation can be specified as an option. Lexus Safety Sense is also provided as standard, including Pre-Collision Safety, Adaptive Cruise Control Lane Keep Assist, Automatic High Beam and Traffic Sign Recognition.

The new NX with front-wheel drive and 17-inch wheel options has an on-the-road price of £35,860. It is on sale now, with customer deliveries to commence when conditions relating to the current Covid-19 pandemic permit. Full details of the Lexus NX range are available here.
